Illiac Band?
How about using the Illiac in the ensemble name somewhere? As long as that's OK with the powers that be.
Also - I'm thinking of converting this blog into the laptop ensemble blog, that seems easiest as long as there are no objections.

"Illiac" would be kind of a cool name - "The Illiac Band" is good too, but are we really going to be a band? This brings up a larger issue of identity/philosophy/branding. To me, "Illiac" is a bit classier but not quite as hip; "Illiac Band" is cooler but not as serious. I prefer the former, but I could be persuaded.
I, for one, want to out-hardcore PLOrk - and having "Illiac" in the name really takes it back to the days when we were highly experimental badasses, which is kind of energizing. How does everybody feel about this?
Point well taken on the identity issue - but I don't want to sound too stuffy. Further building on Illinois tradition, how about "Illiac Ramblers"?
How about:
Uncle Steve's Illiac Ragtime Band?
or:
staylor7@uiuc.edu and the Illiacs?
How about "Ensemble Illiac"?
What about "The Sal-Mar Constuctions" for that matter?
I kind of like the "Illiac Ensemble" - even though it sounds a bit like the "Hilliard Ensemble." Is it standard for anglophone ensembles to put the word "ensemble" second and the name first, or is there no rule about that? I have to plead ignorance; maybe "Ensemble Illiac" is more appropriate. "Illiac" sounds like an adjective to me, which leads me to believe it should go first, but of course that's just because of the "-ac" ending.
